With Fashion Week ending just last week, I thought it would be totally appropriate to talk a little bit about how fashion and technology mesh in the real world.
I’m not talking about meshing literally, like this:
(what is that anyway?)
or even this:
The most obvious way fashion and technology connect is through the internet. Uber-fierce fashion blogger Bryanboy live streamed every show he attended on his website, giving viewers a first-hand look at a lot of the Fall/Winter 2011 collections. Designer Derek Lam recently collaborated with eBay on a fashion line of your choosing. He presented a dress collection at Fashion Week for eBay Fashion, and the top five vote getters online will be available on sale at eBay for a limited time. Even better, if you sign up, you get a chance to win the entire collection! And of course, there are a ton of websites where you can design your own clothing and handbags. At Viv Pickle, you choose fabric, lining, handle style, and everything else you need to make the perfect purse. FashionPlaytes is a super-cute site for girls to design and customize their clothing, and at Blank-Label, guys can choose fabric, collar, cuff, and everything else they’ll need to create the perfect dress shirt.
But if you’re not ready to unleash your inner designer, you can let the internet do the work for you. There are lots of websites where you can create your own virtual “boutique,” and based on your tastes, you’ll get personalized recommendations for your next fashion find. Boutiques.com is just one of the many places where you can set up shop. And, if all else fails and you just wanna buy something already, there are hundreds (or maybe thousands!) of websites where you can get all the fashion you need at huge discounts. Bluefly, Shopbop, and Zappos are some of the most popular. So whatever your fashion fix, you’ll be sure to find something online to express your fabulousity!
